Established in 2003, Undercliffe House is a seafood restaurant found opposite the Blue Reef Aquarium near the beachfront in Hastings. The charming coastal town setting lends itself to a comforting, homely atmosphere in the restaurant. You'll find oil paintings of fisherman boats on the walls, painted by local artists; chalkboards displaying the day's specials; and bright, white tiling, all contributing to the welcoming, seaside style. Taking full advantage of its location, the menu offers up a huge range of fresh seafood that draws in customers off the beachfront. In between meal times, the restaurant acts as a cafe with freshly baked cakes including popular favourites like the black velvet layered cake and the huge slices of blueberry and frangipane cake. Enjoy a hot mug of tea or an indulgent hot chocolate on a cold, winters day - or possibly, summer's day, thank you British weather! While the restaurant serves up plates of whole fish and lobster claws; those who don't feel that brave can opt for a classic battered fish with chips, peas and homemade tartare. More adventurous seafood-lovers may opt for the grilled seabass served in a garlic, herb, oil and butter dressing alongside sauteed potatoes and a bed of fresh, mixed salad. There is no better place to get your hands on seafood than at the beach so now's your chance to try fresh oysters, served over ice with wedges of lemon to provide a complimentary bitterness. With a daily changing specials board and a seasonal menu, guests are sure to always find something delicious.
