The Angel focusses on providing a friendly service and best quality food by sourcing local and seasonal ingredients. Gluten Free Food in Sheffield In 2012 the Angel at Holmesfield began producing gluten free food. It began when current owners Malcolm & Mandy Drewery moved to The Angel from The Derwentwater Arms in Calver. The Angel already had a reputation for hosting a weekly gluten free night, and so Mal (chef owner), started to learn how to work with exciting new ingredients, to create dishes that are free from gluten. The whole idea really took off when the Angel held a gluten free pie night, for charity. Following the success of the gf pie night, they hosted a ‘Great British Pie Week’ event– with the gluten free twist. The first pie week proved so popular that it just seemed obvious to carry on creating pies for coeliacs, and so the gluten free story began. Almost all free from gluten and dairy The next move was to make gf batter thus everything in the fryers would be gluten free and preventing cross contamination. The batter is now dairy free as well. Over the years, all puddings & pastries have become gluten free, even Yorkshire pudding to accompany the delicious Derbyshire beef Sunday roast dinner. Mal and head chef Phil continue to learn and find alternative ingredients to create even better gluten free dishes and are now incorporating dairy free as well. Seven years later the Angel dishes are not only made from quality local ingredients but also almost all free from gluten and dairy. Great British pie week at the Angel is held at the beginning of March.
